Shops along Artisan Street in Madaba have undergone facelifts to enhance the appearance of Madaba’s core heritage area. This is the result of a façade upgrade program that aims to strengthen Madaba’s tourism appeal and eventually lengthen the time visitors spend in the city center.

A participant in a safe food handling and hygiene workshop which is part of a nationwide effort to improve standards at facilities that handle food. This includes restaurants, hotels and catering services and trainees include chefs, cooks and restaurant managers.

Tourist police around the Kingdom are attending workshops to learn about the importance of tourism in Jordan and to improve their communication skills and enable them to better deal with tourist requests. This is part of the National Tourism Awareness Campaign and is taking place in Amman, Jerash and Petra.

VTC students at the Marka hospitality and tourism center demonstrate their hospitality skills to prospective students and parents and answer questions on the program. Open house days were held at all VTC tourism and hospitality centers around Jordan and over 3,000 people attended these.

An intern with the Wadi Rum IT Network project receives a certificate from USAID Jordan Mission Director for taking part in the IT project. 20 interns were trained to provide IT skills to almost 250 members of the Wadi Rum community.

Rugs woven by members of the Burda Women’s Cooperative in Wadi Rum are now sold at a shop dedicated to the cooperative’s products at the Wadi Rum Visitor Center. This has improved visibility of the beautiful handmade items and increased sales and income to the local women.
