Madaba Tourism Development Strategy and Enterprise Development Program

Siyaha worked with local and national government entities and businesses to created the Madaba Tourism Development Strategy and Enterprise Development Program-a plan to develop the Madaba area into a premier tourism location. The strategy aims to create a tourist destination "cluster" in the governorate by capitalizing on the area's unique archaeological, natural and religious sites.

The strategy focuses on four areas:

- Product development and competitiveness-capitalizing on the area's existing resources and local charm, develop the quality and range of services and products offered to tourists.

- Marketing to international and local tourists-working with the Jordan Tourism Board and the local community, implement targeted promotional activities to draw tourists to the area.

- Developing human resources-improve the quality of service for tourists by strengthening vocational and management talent.

- Developing institutions and an enabling environment-create an environment that supports industry growth through strong institution and sound regulations.

Strategy Goals

- Earn JD 21 million annually
- Support 3,700 tourism-based jobs
- Create 400 tourism-related enterprises
- Extend the average length of stay for international tourists
- Attract 27,800 "bed nights"

Strategy Implementation

Siyaha is working with key stakeholders from the government and private sector to implement the strategy across multiple fronts.

- The Madaba Tourism Enterprise Development Program is supporting the creation and growth of tourism businesses in the governorate. Siyaha developed a comprehensive package for eligible enterprises and entrepreneurs that includes training and counseling, grants, business development services and financial support. Read more about Siyaha's Enterprise Development Grants.

- Destination management committees are focusing the governorate's development in eight key tourism areas: religious tourism; marketing and branding; food and lodging; cultural events; arts, crafts and retailing; public awareness and education; traffic licensing and public services; and adventure and sports. These committees are spearheading local participation in strategy implementation.

- The Madaba Tourism Association, which was created with Siyaha support, is organizing the community's tourism stakeholders and strengthening implementation efforts.
