In September, Jordan’s tourism industry launched a five-year (2014 – 2019) national meetings, incentives, conferences and events (MICE) sector strategy to develop the tourism sector and enhance the promotion of Jordan as a unique MICE destination to the world. The USAID Economic Growth Through Sustainable Tourism Project continues to provide unique training opportunities to the tourism community: frontline staff improved their skills to create memorable experiences for tourists through “the art of concierge” training; while the “consumer behavior” seminar helped the industry understand the factors affecting tourists’ travel decisions in order to better market Jordan’s tourism. The Pathways to Professionalism Scheme is helping to improve the quality of hospitality training; 57 hotel employees were assessed under the Scheme for the first time while 100 Internal Verifiers and Departmental Trainers were certified.
