The USAID/Siyaha is helping The Royal Society for Conservation of Nature (RSCN) in developing Ajloun Tourism Nature Trail by supporting local businesses along the trail. The USAID tourism project is providing 25 grants to develop enterprises that offer a variety of tourism products and services along the Nature Trail.
USAID/Siyaha is helping the Productive Village Cooperative improve and sustain not only through financial support but also by technical support by hiring a designer and marketing specialist. Also, the cooperative weaving and soap workshops will be furnished and equipped with needed tools and raw materials.
To improve selling of handcrafts produced by the Burda Women Cooperative in Wadi Rum, support is being extended to this cooperative through helping it come up with new sellable designs and adopt a marketing strategy that would increase the tourist spending. The Weaving and soap production workshops will also be furnished and provided with needed raw material and equipment. The grant also covers salaries for some of the staff in order to back the association and help it sustain.
The Taybeh Ladies Cooperative received a grant to upgrade its pottery workshop and provide it with new equipment and a storage area. The expertise that will be provided to the Cooperative will not only help it develop its products and designs but also build its management and marketing capacity.
The Nabatean Ladies Cooperative Society in Wadi Mousa received a grant to upgrade its silver workshop in terms of providing safe environment and also building the cooperative capacity in sales, marketing, and management. The cooperative will also get the chance to develop its products and introduce new designs through training.
The Arab Forum for Cultural Interaction "Bait Al-Anbat" in Petra is getting support from USAID/Siyaha to develop a successful handcraft project through providing expertise to train the management staff and producers on sales, production, and marketing.
To enhance the tourist experience in Aqaba, the Aqaba Maritime Tourism Society will be helped to improve communication, first aid, and guiding skills of glass boat drivers and also upgrade and remodel the glass boats and provide necessary safety equipment.
The USAID/Siyaha is supporting the Jordanian Women's Development Association of the Deaf to build its capacity through setting a business plan for the association and training handcraft producers to enhance their skills. A pilot silk screening project will be supported as to help the association develop a new product line. This grant aims at improving the living standards for Deaf women by improving their skills and ensuring sustainability for the association.
The Jordan Hotel Association sought USAID/Siyaha support to build its capacity and become a system and policy-driven organization, enhance its marketing activities, provide customer relations, communication skills, English language, and leadership training to JHA members, improve hotel services through getting the sector workers trained on a work related skills, and set up a quality assurance unit.
To preserve and highlight the natural and cultural heritage of Salt, USAID/Siyaha is assisting the Salt Development Corporation in developing the Salt Heritage Trail and provide tourism products, facilities and services along the trail that could attract tourists and enhance their experience through improving existing small businesses and encouraging new enterprises.

The Jordan Museum received a grant to support its activities. Recently, the museum was able through the grant to participate in the Deaf Nation World Expo, and now its getting support to develop and implement a café concept that would generate revenues for the museum.

The Society for Development and Rehabilitation of Rural Women has been given a grant to develop a new retail outlet at Rainbow Street in Jabal Amman, upgrade the Society's sewing workshop and enforce new marketing methods to attract tourists and increase sales.
Royal Society for Conservation of Nature are supported to develop and implement Ajloun Tourism Nature Trail project plan, conduct awareness program to introduce local business owners and other stakeholders to the tourism project in Ajloun and ensure their support to the project. This grant also covers both technical and financial support for enterprises along the trail.

Institute for Mosaic Art and Restoration in Madaba is seeking to attract more students and raise awareness among the community about the institute educational offerings. The USAID/Siyaha will back these efforts through producing brochures, building an effective website for the institute, installing signs, holding open days, and providing internship and scholarship opportunities.
Madaba Institute for Mosaic Art and Restoration was awarded two grants to help building Department of Archaeology's capacity. The first grant is mainly for institutional and technical capacity building in areas related to planning, documentation, excavation activities, restoration and conservation, project management, knowledge sharing, and monitoring.
Whereas the second grant focuses on supporting DoA's outreach and communications through designing awareness programs, creating a website and producing necessary publications.

Heritage Company for Embroidery received a grant of JD 49,270 to help the company introduce a new experience to tourists that showcases the rich cultural heritage of Jordan and the Arab region at large, expanding the range of cultural and educational activities offered in the City of Amman. raising awareness among children and young adults about the history and culture of Jordan, maximizing exposure to museums, and inspiring people to learn about the highlights of different societies and traditions through developing a newly established Arab Heritage Museum.
To address the shortage in local qualified professionals in the hospitality sector, a grant was given to Royal Academy for Culinary Art (RACA) in order to increase awareness of RACA and its offering, in addition to increasing the number of students register in Jan 2010 intake. The grant covers RACA's marketing activities through online networking, TV & Radio shows and better deployment of print media.
Jordan Motorcycle Association has received a grant of JD 37,439 starting from 1 October, 2009 to help it introduce international standards of motorcycle riding safety in coordination with international organizations, and to regulate, train, and oversee motorcyclists on Jordan's roads. This grant will also work on organizing international Club rides in Jordan to encourage inbound tourism.
A one year grant to Bait Al Anbat aims at maintaining year one operations of the center for which Bait Al Anbat has received a grant from Friends of World Heritage (FoWH). The center aims at promoting public awareness that enhances the protection of Petra Archaeological Park, a World Heritage site, developing and implementing activities promoting local tourism awareness, providing reliable information concerning the local tourism industry, in addition to enhancing local involvement and participation in the tourism development process. This JD 29,904 grant started in 1 October, 2009.
Deja-Vu productions has received a grant of JD 10,111 to develop a DVD called "Jordan Wonder" comprising a short video about the attractions of Jordan along with 3D photographs for locations in Jordan. The support aims at widely distributing the Jordan Wonder DVD locally and internationally in addition to improving Jordan's competitiveness as a tourism destination. The grant was launched in September 2009.
This grant is a JD 67,353 that aims at building employees' capacity, enhancing tourism marketing and strengthening private associations working in tourism. In an attempt to strengthen JRA outreach to engage members, respond to their needs and expand the membership base.
The grant also includes activities related to raising awareness on programs and services offered by JRA, in addition to activities that ensure good communication channels between JRA members. The grant was put into effect in September 2009.
Jordan Tourism board (JTB) has received a one- year grant to conduct market survey in the UK market which aims at understanding behaviors of British travelers and the triggers that affect their choice of destination to enable JTB better focus its marketing activities in the UK. The grant has been active since June 2009 with an amount of JD 22,825.
Jordan Federation of Tourism Association obtained a grant support in order to update the National Tourism Strategy through provision of managerial and administrative efforts facilitating the industry meetings, including both the working groups and the Tourism Competitiveness Team (TCT), per pillar, to discuss current challenges and reach decisions relating to appropriate strategies and action plans. In addition, technical knowledge wasfacilitated by the Federation staff through conducting some research or gathering information from the industry. The JD 22,000 grant support started early June 2009 and concluded six months later.
JTD ІІ's support has extended to RSCN eco-tourism facilities to improve quality of services provided, achieve tourism employees' motivation, enhance tourist experience, and encourage tourist long stays and repeated visits.
The Grant will support eco-tourism facilities in building RSCN tourism staff capacity through providing training courses in Standard hotel and service management, as Safe Food Handling, HACCP, Routine Housekeeping, Basic Hospitality Skills, and English Language for Tourism. In addition, the Grant will provide Customized training on customer information, marketing RSCN products, environmental procedures for eco-lodges, developing the eco-products and visitor's experience, besides search and rescue. Training to aid sustainability (Train the trainers, Management training for middle managers, principles of eco tourism), Provision of world class first aid kits technical support staff to facilitate and organize training programs, and Preparing Standard Operation Procedures Manuals (editing, translating, designing and printing) are also part of the support.
To create more income generating opportunities for the Jabal Amman Residents Association (JARA) and in order to help the association achieve its objectives of turning Jabal Amman into a key destination for unique and authentic cultural experiences, a JD15,045 grant was awarded to JARA. The grant, which was implemented over a 5-month period through to October 2009, sought to increase the number of tourists, expats and local visitors to the Friday JARA market through a concentrated marketing campaign. As a result, a greater number of visitors reached the market, and the purpose was to create better sales and promotion opportunities for different items and products on display.
Jordan Inbound Tour Operators received a JD 70,800 grant that started in April 2009 in order to support efforts to strengthen public and private tourism institutions, enhance visitor experiences, increase the awareness of the benefits of tourism and enhance the skills of human resources in tourism. The grant covers the following activities: 1- Enhancing human capacity, tourism marketing and strengthening private associations working in tourism. 2- Improving skills and helping in offering different services and products that will help achieving National Tourism Strategy goals. 3- Introduce the importance of tourism to students. 4- Extending support to the tourism industry, in general, and tour operators in particular.
Sun City Restaurant in Petra was provided a JD 5000 grant which included renovating kitchens to meet food safety and hygiene standards, renovating toilets to meet guest expectations, plus hygiene and sanitation standards, in addition to upgrading restaurant furniture. The grant also included training the restaurant's staff on Safe Food Handling, Basic First Aid, Hospitality Skills and English for Tourism. The grant duration was six months (from April 2009 till October 2009).
The Jordan Tourism Development Project ІІ awarded 16 grants to hotels and restaurants in Wadi Mousa. These grants aim to support eight hotels and nine restaurants to upgrade their facilities and services in order to meet the national hotel and restaurant classification standards. The grant support, which totals about JD100,000, includes the following: - Renovating kitchens to meet food safety and hygiene standards. - Upgrading kitchen equipment for better food storage and production - Renovating toilets to meet guest expectations and hygiene and sanitation standards - Upgrading rooms standards to meet the minimum national hotel classification standards - Upgrading restaurant furniture - Training staff in safe food handling, basic first aid, hospitality skills and English for tourism.

Oriental is a newly renovated 2-floor restaurant located on the tourism street. It serves Arabic cuisine and pizzas and seats up to 150 guests.
Petra Magic Restaurant received a grant to upgrade of kitchen equipment for better food storage and production, in addition to creating a new table setup. Petra Magic is a newly established restaurant, which is perched on a hill that enjoys a lovely view of Wadi Mousa. The restaurant seats 120 customers.
Sand Stone Restaurant in Petra received a grant to upgrade kitchen equipment for better food storage and production. Upgraded equipment includes a stove, refrigerator, and ice maker. Sand Stone is a 2-floor Arabic style restaurant located on the tourism street.
Doshara Restaurant received a grant to upgrade kitchen equipment for better food storage and production by providing stainless steel tables, an espresso machine, a hot cabinet, and shelves.
Doshara is a newly established restaurant that serves an Arabic style buffet.
Edom Hotel received a grant to renovate its kitchen to meet food safety and hygiene standards and upgrade rooms to meet 3-star classification standards. Stainless steel shelves and tables, sauce pots, frying pans, a deep fryer, refrigerator, salad bar and an electric insect killer will ensure better food storage and production. This 3 star hotel has 135 rooms and one restaurant with a summer terrace that seats 280 people.
Sela Hotel received a grant to upgrade its rooms to meet 3-stars classification standards by adding wardrobes, peep holes, additional locks, stainless steel shelves and mini bars. This 3-star hotel has 39 rooms; currently 37 of these are operating. It has a restaurant that seats up to 95 guests.
Candles Hotel received a grant to renovate kitchens to meet food safety and hygiene standards by upgrading kitchen equipment for better food storage and production. New kitchen equipment includes an oven, bain-marie, freezer, fridge, hood and duct.
This 3-star hotel has 35 rooms and one restaurant that seats up to 150 guests.
Petra Palace Hotel received a grant to renovate kitchens to meet food safety and hygiene standards and upgrade kitchen equipment for better food storage and production. The grant will also help the hotel establish a laundry and dry-clean facility. Equipment purchased through the grant includes a garment press air/steam, spotting board, air compressor, vacuum unit, single door fridge, freezer, ice maker, ice flaker, and meat mincer. This 3-star hotel is located on the tourism street in Wadi Mousa. The hotel is undergoing full renovation and expansion to add 40 rooms to its existing by the end of 2009. The hotel has one restaurant that fits up to 120 people. In addition to the room upgrade and expansions, Petra palace is setting up a laundry facility. This will be the second laundry room in a 3-star hotel in Petra, and will increase competition in laundry and dry-clean services, leading to better service quality.
Amra palace Hotel received a grant to help upgrade rooms to meet 1-star classification standards, renovate kitchens to meet food safety and hygiene standards, and upgrade kitchen equipment for better food storage and production. The new kitchen equipment includes a dishwasher, stainless steel shelves, stainless steel cupboards, and an espresso machine. This 3-star hotel in Wadi Mousa has 72 rooms. The hotel restaurant has a summer terrace and seats up to 180 people. It also has an indoor pool, sauna, and Turkish bath facilities.
Al Rasheed Hotel received a grant to help upgrade rooms to meet the 1-star classification standard, renovate kitchens to meet food safety and hygiene standards, and upgrade kitchen equipment for better food storage and production. This includes a freezer, refrigerator, stainless steel cupboards, and air conditioners.This 1-star hotel located in Wadi Mousa has a newly renovated restaurant that seats up to 150.
Al Hidab hotel received a grant to help upgrade kitchen equipment for better food storage and production. This equipment includes a new oven, stainless steel shelves, a refrigerator, a deep fryer, and a freezer. This 1-star hotel is located in Wadi Mousa and has a total of 37 rooms. The hotel has a restaurant that seats 140 customers and a bar that serves an international range of beverages.
Al Qantara Restaurant received a grant to upgrade kitchen equipment for better food storage and production, furnish the restaurant, and supply buffet utensils and serving equipment. This new restaurant is under construction. Al Qantara which means “arches” will serve authentic Jordanian cuisine buffet-style. An a la carte menu will also be available and waiters will wear authentic Byzantine uniforms.
Silk Road Hotel received a grant to renovate its kitchen to meet the food safety and hygiene standards, upgrade kitchen equipment for better food storage and production, renovate and upgrade the restaurant by providing it with a dish washer, refrigerator, ice maker, oven flames, and a mini-bar.
This 3-star hotel is located in Wadi Mousa and has 23 rooms and a restaurant that seats up to 300 people.
Jordan Applied University is a subsidiary of JHTEC, an accredited awarding institution of licensed tour guides in Jordan, received Jordan Tourism Development Project II funding in order to enhance their operations and improve students learning through training specialized language tour guides to enhance tourist experience. The JAU is a leader in tourism education and contribute to the economic, social and cultural development of Jordan.
This initiative will help enrich the tourism sector with well trained non-English language guides, build guides capacity through proper training and field educational trips, introduce to students the tourism career opportunities with special emphasis on the importance of tourism and the role of tour guiding and hospitality, and support development of skills and a code of ethics in dealing with tourists from all nationalities.
In addition to being an educational institution, the Children’s Museum is a tourist destination. Therefore, the National Children’s Museum has received the Jordan Tourism Development Project ІІ funding in order to improve their operations and income generation. The museum is well established and chartered with a mission to enhance children's cognitive, social, emotional, cultural, creative, aesthetic and civic development and further their natural love of learning and inquiry through informal, immersive and interactive learning experiences.
