Piecing together history in Madaba
The Madaba Institute of Mosaic Art and Restoration is providing a specialized education, helping to preserve Jordan’s mosaics and adding to Madaba’s tourist attractions. It is the only facility of its kind in the region to provide specialized education in mosaic art.
Sewing the way to success
Sahar Nassar expanded her traditional embroidery business by opening a shop on the prime Artisan Street in Madaba with help from USAID. She employs 50 women across Jordan for her business, helping to provide a steady income to them.
Hospitality training gets an upgrade
Khamis has a passion for cooking, and thanks to an overhaul of tourism vocational training centers in Jordan, he has been able to pursue a career in hospitality and gain valuable experience in a 5* hotel.

bullet Five hotels and five restaurants in Petra received grants to upgrade the facilities, including renovating kitchens, upgrading kitchen equipment, improving food safety and hygiene, and enhancing rooms standards.
bullet USAID is supporting tourism marketing through two grantsawarded to the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB). The grants are supporting JTB to align itself with the National Tourism Strategy, extend its outreach through e-marketing and boost its research and communication functions.
bullet The Jordan Living Heritage Association received a USAID grant to support the enhancement of historical re-enactment activities in Jerash and introduce these in other heritage cities in Jordan.
bullet USAID is supporting fair trade in the tourism sector through a grant to Fair Trade Jordan. The grant will be used to implement a 'fair trade' certification scheme for Jordanian tourism businesses.
