USAID supports media presence at JTM

The Jordan Travel Mart (JTM) is a forum that links travel professionals from the USA, Canada, Mexico, and Central and South America to Jordan’s tourism industry, and introduces participants to the travel opportunities and experiences that Jordan has to offer.

JTM thus facilitates meetings between travel buyers from North and South America to tourism services providers in Jordan with the aim of creating new business, and enhancing existing business relationships in a professional and organized environment. The purpose is to increase visitor arrivals from tour operators out of the participating countries.

Now in its second year, JTM takes place from 22-24 February, 2009 and 125 buyers of tourism products and services, along with international travel journalists from the participating countries have confirmed their attendance. The travel show will take place at the King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Center at the Dead Sea and this year the total attendance is expected to be about 350 delegates, a 25% increase over last year’s inaugural event.

The USAID/Jordan Tourism Development Project II is supporting this year’s event by sponsoring the attendance of the international media at the event. This begins with pre-event press tours that will take them through a rich, five-day program that includes visits to Amman, Jerash, Madaba, Nebo, Bethany, Dead Sea, Kerak, Petra, Wadi Rum and Aqaba. The USAID project’s sponsorship will also cover accommodation costs and tourist site entrance fees, and will organize visits to local cooperatives projects in Petra, Wadi Rum or Madaba.
